Skylar moves 700 miles away from all of her memories and rebuilds in the North Carolina town of Jacksonville, which is a military town. She becomes successful with the purchase of her second business, a bar that is named The Bar where she meets its cocky neighbor, Tanner. Tanner owns a vehicle and motorcycle repair and restoration business right next to the bar.

Tanner is pretty much your typical playboy, though he is upfront with his one-night stands and never leads anyone on. He has no desire to settle down after going through his own traumatic childhood. He doesn't really trust women, but for some reason, Skylar gets under his skin. They butt heads, yet deep down, neither can deny the chemistry that is there.
Skylar is not ready for a relationship, and she'd never even think about dating someone like Tanner, who she sees as someone who could never be faithful or loyal and doesn't deserve someone like her, someone who when she gives her heart, she gives it completely.
Will Skylar be able to finally move on and let anyone in again?
Will Tanner be able to trust a woman, settle down, and be faithful?

As the memory fades and I come back to the present, I set the cologne bottle down and feel like I’m dying inside at the thought of never having another Christmas with the man I’ve loved since the moment I laid eyes on him in the vocational school lunchroom. I suddenly feel like someone is crushing my heart in a vice, making it hard to breathe. I open his top drawer, looking for a t-shirt I can put on my cold, shivering, naked body. I sift through his drawer, looking for his favorite Pink Floyd t-shirt he wore often. As I rifle through his shirts, my hand touches something hard. I move shirts aside and look down to see a small, black, velvet box. For a long moment, all I can do is stare at it. When I finally pick it up, I back up until my knees hit the bed. I sit down hard, unable to take my eyes from the box, scared to open it. I finally get the courage to lift the lid and my hand moves up over my mouth as I whisper, “Oh my God. “Inside is a breathtaking princess cut diamond engagement ring on a simple, white gold band. My breath catches in my throat, and my chin and lips start quivering as fresh tears pour down my face. My sight blurs so badly that I can hardly make it out anymore. I snap the lid and scream out, “No! You can’t be gone! We had plans! I love you so much!” I clutch the ring box to my chest, grab his other pillow, hugging it as I lay down, pulling his comforter up to my chin. It still smells of him. As his scent surrounds me, I fall into bone-shattering sobs until I pass out sometime in the early morning hours.
